AT&T PEBBLE BEACH NATIONAL PRO-AM WILL SHOWCASE PEBBLE BEACH GOLF LINKS' U.S. OPEN LAYOUT Competitors Will Experience New Championship Layout in Anticipation of 2010 U.S. Open
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (February 4, 2010) During the PGA Tour's annual stop at Pebble Beach, February 8-14, a strong AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am field will have a first-hand look at the recently completed course changes at Pebble Beach Golf Links in preparation for the 2010 U. S. Open Championship in June. If history is any indication, they will pay attention - all four past champions from the U.S. Opens held at Pebble Beach have also won, at one time, the AT&T Pro-Am.
Under the direction of Arnold Palmer, Pebble Beach has strengthened the legendary links and lengthened the course to 7,040 yards. With fairways now pushed closer to the coastline, the Pacific Ocean is no longer just a beautiful backdrop, but will be a prominent feature on all coastal holes. Enhancements have been made to four greens, 11 tees and 16 bunkers. In addition, six holes have had trees added or repositioned to add strategic value to the layout. Palmer's goal was simple: maintain the integrity and historic shot values of this American jewel while challenging today's standard of players and equipment. “In preparation for the U.S. Open, we planned very, very carefully before we moved a single blade of grass,” said Mr. Palmer. “Pebble Beach is a national treasure to the game of golf with a rich and storied history, and we made certain that our enhancements complimented the intent of the original design. We're ready now to test the game's greatest players once again, and I'm thrilled to be a part of this exciting year at Pebble Beach.”
Golfers who want to know what it's like to play a U.S. Open layout on one of the world's top golf courses will have that unique opportunity on the famed public course from now until June at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
“The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am always brings an exciting start to the New Year, especially when it is paired with a U.S. Open less than five months away,” said Bill Perocchi, chief executive officer for Pebble Beach Company. “Part of the excitement this year will be to see how the players respond to the recent course changes and the pre-U.S. Open conditions that they will face. This year, more than ever, a round at Pebble Beach Golf Links is truly special because every golfer can experience for themselves the thrill of playing on a U.S. Open course leading up to June's Championship.”
To learn more about the course enhancements or to book your stay, visit www.PebbleBeach.com or call 800-654-9300. Be a part of the 2010 U.S. Open by purchasing tickets available online at usga.org.

STATE OF CALIFORNIA AWARDS OUTSTANDING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD TO PEBBLE BEACH COMPANY
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (January 2010) The California Integrated Waste Management Board recently honored Pebble Beach Company with its 2009 Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) award, in recognition of the Company's outstanding efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment. This marks the tenth time that the Company has been given a WRAP award by the State of California and is the latest recognizing the companys continuing environmental efforts.
Now in its 17th year, the Waste Board's WRAP awards recognize businesses that develop innovative and aggressive programs to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Applicants are honored based on a set of criteria developed in cooperation with the business community. Practices evaluated include waste prevention, materials reuse, recycling, recycled-product procurement, and employee education.
Through a number of new initiatives led by Pebble Beach Company's employee green team, the amount of materials recycled throughout the resorts significantly expanded in 2009. Additions to the Company's waste diversion program include post-guestroom recycling, the addition of recycling to scenic 17-Mile Drive turnouts, and donation programs. For example, used wine corks are now donated to the Monterey County Youth Museum for art projects and partially used amenities to the Salvation Army and local homeless shelters. PBC also began composting food waste at special events. In total, the Companys many waste reduction efforts diverted over 3,280 tons from area landfills.
“Pebble Beach Company is honored to receive a 2009 WRAP award,” said Thomas Quattlebaum, Environmental Stewardship Manager and co-chair of the Pebble Beach Company Employee Green Team. “Managing our resources wisely and as sustainably as possible is a key goal for our employees. We appreciate being recognized by the California Waste Management Board and look forward to improving our results in the coming year.”
For further information on this award or any of the Company's environmental programs, please contact Thomas Quattlebaum at 831-625-8402.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (September 21, 2009) Pebble Beach Resorts has once again been named “Best Golf Resort in North America” by Golf Digest magazine. The ranking appears in the magazine's biannual feature, “The 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America,” published in the October 2009 issue. PEBBLE BEACH COMPANY RECOGNIZED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE
Certified “Green” by Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (July 15, 2009) Pebble Beach Company (PBC) has officially achieved “green” certification through the Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program. This certification includes The Lodge at Pebble Beach, The Inn at Spanish Bay, Casa Palmero, The Spa at Pebble Beach, The Beach & Tennis Club, and The Spanish Bay Fitness Club, as well as 13 restaurants, 12 retail outlets, 2 vehicle maintenance facilities, and a number of administrative offices associated with Pebble Beach Companys operations.
The Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program recognizes businesses that volunteer to operate in an environmentally responsible way. To earn “green” certification, Pebble Beach Company demonstrated compliance with all regulatory agencies and exceeded program standards for conserving resources, preventing pollution, and minimizing waste.
The following are highlights of environmental programs at Pebble Beach Company:
- Environmental considerations are incorporated into all business decisions.
- PBCs golf courses are irrigated with 100% recycled water.
- PBCs efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste in all operations, from offices and retail to the golf courses, special events, 17 Mile Drive scenic turnouts, and post-guestroom recycling annually divert over 6.56 million pounds of waste from area landfills. PBCs green waste recycling program produces over 2500 tons of compost annually from golf course clippings, forest debris, and landscape green waste, which is then used in landscaping, restoration projects, and the golf courses. Furthermore, PBC now composts food waste at special events. The 2009 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am composted 2640 lbs of food waste.
- Energy efficiency program targets a 5% annual reduction in energy usage through extensive retrofits and upgrades. Last year, PBC reduced electricity and natural gas consumption by 753,000 kWh and 64,000 therms respectively and in turn reduced CO2 emissions by 1,897,417 lbs!
- The use of Styrofoam containers has been eliminated resort-wide.
- Biodegradable to-go containers are used at resort restaurants.
“This certification is the latest environmental achievement for Pebble Beach Company,” said Thomas Quattlebaum, the Companys Environmental Stewardship Manager and Pebble Beach Companys Green Team co-chair. Quattlebaum also noted that “Pebble Beach Company has earned The Green Award from Golf Magazine for 2008-2009 and the 2008 Waste Reduction Award Program award from the California Integrated Waste Management Board.”
Additionally, Pebble Beach Golf Links has been named one of the Top 10 Eco-Friendly Courses by Links Magazine Online. Pebble Beach Company is also proud to have achieved recertification for Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, The Links at Spanish Bay, and Del Monte Golf Course as “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries” by Audubon International.
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program promotes ecologically-sound land management and the conservation of natural resources on established golf courses. To reach certification, courses must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas including: Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation, and Water Quality Management.

World Golf Event Returns June 14 - 20, 2010
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 25, 2009) After an exciting finish at this years U.S. Open at Bethpage, Pebble Beach Company congratulates championship winner Lucas Glover and looks forward to the worlds best golfers competing on legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links in 2010.
Pebble Beach Golf Links, site of Tiger Woods historic win at the 2000 U.S. Open Championship, will host the 2010 U.S. Open for the fifth time from June 14-20 of next year. Opened in 1919 and designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant, Pebble Beach has been host to 10 previous USGA championships, including four U.S. Opens. Tiger Woods 15-stroke victory in 2000 – his first U.S. Open win – was the largest ever recorded at a major golf tournament. Prior winners at Pebble Beach include Jack Nicklaus in 1972, Tom Watson in 1982 and Tom Kite in 1992.
“We are honored to be working with the USGA on another Open,” said William L. Perocchi, chief executive officer, Pebble Beach Company. “Pebble Beach has been the site of many great moments in golf. Were ready for another history-making event.”
In preparation for the 2010 U.S. Open Championship, Pebble Beach has unveiled a number of course enhancements, all under the advisement of Arnold Palmer. Pebble Beach Golf Links has continuously strengthened the course facets to enhance player appreciation, heighten the challenge and exceed guest and championship expectations.
“In the work we did to enhance the holes in preparation for the 2010 U.S. Open, the team reviewed countless historical photographs and documents to make sure we maintained the integrity, drama and grit of the original design. Our goal has been to strengthen Pebble Beach, a national treasure to the game of golf, for todays player, while maintaining its timelessness.” – Arnold Palmer
PEBBLE BEACH GOLF LINKS MAINTAINS #1 RANKING AS AMERICAS GREATEST PUBLIC GOLF COURSE
Improvements Completed in Anticipation of 2010 U.S. Open
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Apr. 15, 2009)
For the sixth consecutive year, Pebble Beach Golf Links has earned top honors as Americas #1 Greatest Public Golf Course as publicized in the May edition of Golf Digest magazine. The legendary course has maintained this position since 2003 when the rankings were first introduced.
Touted as one of the most comprehensive and prestigious rankings in the game of golf, this award is highly coveted. To maintain the top position again is truly rewarding, says Bill Perocchi, Chief Executive Officer. Under the direction of Arnold Palmer, weve made a number of golf course improvements in anticipation of hosting our fifth U.S. Open in June 2010, and weve received a lot of positive feedback. This new Golf Digest ranking provides further recognition that were on the right track.
The primary purpose of these enhancements was to maintain Pebble Beachs historic shot value in light of the increased length exhibited by todays players. The most recent improvement was made to the oceanfront fourth hole. This short par 4 has undergone a bunker redesign to bring the ocean more into play. The existing pot bunker in the left fairway was shifted right, towards the ocean, to force players to the ocean side of the course, and the larger left side fairway bunker has been extended seaward to capture off center tee shots. Two new bunkers were added along the left side of the fairway requiring more precision and thoughtful club selection on the tee shot. Other notable changes occurred on holes 6 and 18 where, again, the ocean takes center stage through strategic placement of bunkers and Cypress trees.
Overall, 4 greens and 16 bunkers have been rebuilt, altered or installed; 11 tees have been upgraded, trees have been added on 6 holes and the total length of the course has been extended to 7,040 yards.
The 2010 U.S. Open Championship will mark the fifth time that the storied course has hosted this prestigious event. Opened in 1919 and designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant, Pebble Beach Golf Links has hosted ten previous USGA championships. Tiger Woods 15-stroke victory in 2000 his first U.S. Open win was the largest ever recorded at a major golf tournament. Prior winners at Pebble Beach were Jack Nicklaus in 1972, Tom Watson in 1982, and Tom Kite in 1992.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (February 2009) Site of the 2010 U.S. Open Championship, Pebble Beach has unveiled the new and notable updates to their acclaimed golf links since hosting the tournament in 2000. In Summary: Four greens and 16 bunkers have been rebuilt, altered or installed, 11 tees have benefited from enhancements, 6 holes have seen the addition or adjustment of trees (including Cypress) and the total length of the course has been extended to 7,040 yards.
In the work we did to enhance the holes in preparation for the 2010 U.S. Open, the team reviewed countless historical photographs and documents to make sure we maintained the integrity, drama and grit of the original design.

ROCCO MEDIATE RETURNS TO MONTEREY PENINSULA AFTER DRAMATIC SEASON FOR 37th ANNUAL CALLAWAY GOLF PEBBLE BEACH INVITATIONAL
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. November 18, 2008 After more than 20 years and five victories on the PGA Tour, Rocco Mediate nearly made golfing history last June.
In a Monday playoff round at the U.S. Open hailed as among the most dramatic in the history of televised golf, Tiger Woods foiled Mediates attempt to become the events oldest titlist.
Playing their 91st hole in five days, Woods made par on the first sudden death hole and at age 32 won the 14th major championship of his career. Mediate, age 45 and six months, bogeyed the hole and finished second, his career-best performance in a major championship.
Following consecutive second-place finishes in the AT&T Skills Challenge and Wendys 3-Tour Challenge, Mediate will join defending titlist Tommy Armour III and four PGA Tour tournament winners this season beginning Thursday (Nov. 20) in the 37th annual Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational presented by Merrill Lynch.
The unique 72-hole event, which features 81 professionals from the four major tours as well as mini-tour players and club pros, will be held at Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Del Monte Golf Course.
A longtime entrant, Mediate won the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational in 1999 and finished tied for second last year with Ronnie Black, two shots behind Armour.
"Playing against Tiger, I just didn't want to live up to the expectations of everybody else, which was to get my butt handed to me, said Mediate in an interview last week in the Montreal Gazette, while reflecting on his season of unique celebrity. That wasn't going to happen.
Had he claimed the U.S. Open, Mediate would have surpassed Hale Irwin, who won the 1990 U.S. Open at age 45 and 15 days.

Steve Lowery, D.J. Trahan and Chez Reavie, all victorious this season, are among 29 PGA Tour players in the tournament field.
Trahan won the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic (Jan. 20); Lowery is the reigning AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am titlist (Feb. 10); Reavie claimed the RBC Canadian Open (July 27).
Founded in 1972, the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational is the only tournament featuring individual competition among players from the four major tours.
Championship rounds for the $300,000 event will be played through Sunday, Nov. 23. The first three rounds will be held simultaneously on all three courses. Following the 54-hole cut, the top 40 pros and 10 amateur teams will play the final round at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The winner will earn $60,000. Tee shot yardage advantages are given to various tours players on each of the three courses.
Kevin Sutherland, who won the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational in 2000 and had two runner-up finishes this season, is the top 2008 PGA Tour money list entrant, finishing 18th with more than $2.5 million.
John Cook, who finished fifth on the money list this season, will lead nine Champions Tour entrants. Brittany Lincicome, one of the longest hitters on the LPGA Tour and a 2007 Solheim Cup member, will lead seven LPGA Tour entrants. Nine of the 14 Nationwide Tour entrants will be competing on the PGA Tour in 2009.
